Need Help Fishing a Wire on a H356

I'm trying to run a GPS antenna cable and satellite antenna cable from the electrical panel area to the aft end of the boat and I'm not having any luck figuring out a route to take.

There's conduit in the port locker that runs forward, but I put a fish tape in there and ran it forward, without any luck. There's no easy, clear way to do this from what I can see.

If anyone's done this and has some advice for me, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!

Same problem. Last cable (TV) I went under the floor to starboard side. For satellite I went forward and mounted antenna inside the boat on port vee berth self, has worked well.

I think you need to take the panel off on the port side under the nav desk. Run the the cables down the side of the hull, under the sole below the nav desk, then turn aft, running to port side of your thru-hulls. There should be a bundle of wires down there running aft to the helm. Continue going aft around the Yanmar, under the aft berth and into the swim platform.
My sat antenna is mounted on the arch. Cable runs inside the arch pipe to the aft cockpit locker and then down into the swim platform then forward as described above.
If any of this is not clear, ask me, Bob

Doug's approach works....
The port conduit in the lazarette doesn't line up with the section thru the head, and that one doesn't line up with the hole thru by the nav station. I was able to pull some traces thru by using a fish tape with a loop from one end, and a hooked tape from the other - it took some time to do but I pulled thru several traces at once

My 2007 H-36 has behind the main panel with all the circuit breakers and up
high should be 2 PVC pipe that goes all the way back to the stern.
Look in the port side large cockpit compartment and look for the 2 PVC pipes
along the wall and goes all the way back to the rear step compartments.

Thanks for the replies, gents! I'm going to try your approach, Bob - that seems to be the path of least resistance. I hope to report back with a success story next week.

I spent the bulk of my Memorial Day weekend on the boat working on projects with great success. Before I ran the wires the way Bob recommended, for the heck of it I tried pushing my fish tape next to, not inside, of the single piece of conduit that is in my port lazarette - from the lazarette forward to the electrical panel. Success!

However, it turns out it wasn't really even necessary because the Standard Horizon GX2200 internal gps antenna gets perfect reception from where it's mounted and can only accept an external antenna via a separate chartplotter. I don't currently use the old Raytheon chartplotter, but now at least I have trace wires ready for when/if I replace it down the road.

Also, the Terk Sirius/XM antenna I had to mount for my new stereo gets satellite reception just fine from inside the cabinet where the VHF and repeater are installed - the one behind the nav station on the bulkhead separating the cabin from the head. So instead of bothering to run that aft, I'm leaving it as-is as long as it keeps working fine.

I also installed new cockpit speakers below the stern seats and didn't run new wires - just cut and butt spliced the speaker wire from the port lazarette and ran them to the new location.

Thanks to you all for the advice and I'm happy to now be able to spend time actually sailing instead of just working on the boat!

I found that my factory provided Sirius antenna worked just fine moored, but really crappy in a seaway due to heeling and needing a Southern view. ( The great white north). So I am about to tackle the same run aft with a marine Sirius puck. Sigh........

I was wondering do you have 2 PVC pipe along the port side that is from the rear stern compartment all the way to the circuit breaker panel like my H-36.
I used these 2 PVC to run wire all the way to my helm chartplotter.
One PVC was very hard to push my fish tape through but the other one was less crowded when I added Sonar from a new depth transducer to the chartplotter.

I only have one PVC pipe in my 2002 H356. And it was clearly put there to aid the manufacturing process and not to help with future modifications because it terminates in an invisible/inaccessible spot behind the electrical panel.

Mine (2003-356) only has one 2" PVC pipe too Nick. I tried once to get a wire through it and gave up. I am glad to know about the potential of pushing a wire through next to the pipe. My electronics are 2003 versions and when I replace the radar, I may mount it on a stern pole next time so when I go to Florida and have to take down the mast to get to Mobile, I don't have to reinstall the radar on a temporary wood mount.

HI Jerry,
not to hijack this thread but that's what I did when I upgraded to a Simrad broadband radar - works great on the stern pole and gave me a place to hang a bunch of other antennae too
