need desiel mechanic and surveyor in Rhode Island

Hi all

I am closing in on buying a 1987 Ericson 28. It's located in Warren Rhode Island. (I live in Massachusetts) It has been in the hard for 4 years. I am looking for some recomdndations on a local marine motor mechanic to go over the motor before I complete the purchase and also a local Marine surveyor to do a complete survey once I know the motor is good.

From personal experience I would recommend Peter A. Hunt. He is excellent as a surveyor but I do not know his qualifications as a diesel expert. I would check with him first.

His rate was very reasonable also.

In 2007 he did a ten-year C&V survey for me in Bristol. He picked up on everything from burnt-out lights to some more major items. He produced a 20+ page report on my h40.5. He spent over six hours meticulously going over everything and charged me $350.

I highly recommend him.

I used Peter Hunt when I bought my Ericson 35 in Mattapoisett. He is very thorough and reasonably priced. We spent 12 hours working together going over my Ericson. He sensed that I was very meticulous and stayed as long as needed to satisfy me.

A vote for Peter. He was fantastic and his rates are very reasonable. He worked at Cape Dory, builds small boats and is an avid sailor. From experience I can tell you that it can be tough to get time with a diesel mechanic this time of year and even tougher to find a good one. I'd worry about the boat first. Peter is in Norton, MA and didn't charge me for a full day when the first boat he looked at for me was clearly a lost cause.
