Need davits for hunter e36

Hunter e36 Lake St. Clair
I would like to add dinghy davits to my 2012 e36. I know that there are many suppliers out there for davits but so far everyone I questioned has no clue what a Hunter e36 is. I would really like to find a supplier that has done davits for an e36. Has any e36 owner gone through this and if so who did you buy from?

The real issue is that there is no access (that I can find) to get at the inside surfaces that would be likely candidates for through bolting the davit supports. I am thinking that self tapping bolts with high strength epoxy should be adequate particularly if I mount the supports on the horizontal surface (lower transom step) since the load would be in compression.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks

Greg

Greg, I'm sorry but I'm also unfamiliar with the e36. I did, however, just install a set of Forespar Nova Dinghy Davits on my Catalina 400. It was an easy install, and similar to the installation of most davits. I think that you might want to find a way to mount the davit legs to a through bolted (with backing plates) surface. If you examine your boat, you might find it possible to wiggle your way into making it so. Another way is to open an access in your cockpit to access your combing. I mention this because the legs of the davits are not just compression. The boat moves up and down, and the dinghy moves also. This allows those legs to flex in and out. Also shock-loads due to movement can add a lot of pressure. For that reason, I would be hesitant to screw in, even using epoxy, this part of the structure. Good luck on your installation. I'm sure you'll find a way to make it strong.

I am guessing the e36 has that wide step down transom and no way to get to inside for bolting
the bottom legs of the davits.
I have not seen this setup and just wondering if you sure you can't get at the inside transom from inside rear berth some how.
Do you have any photo's

Greg here are some photos I took of an e36 at the factory. There is access through the aft bunk and port side rear cockpit locker to the rear of the boat.

Greg, I'm not familiar with the 36e but I'm sure davits can be installed. The connection to the boat needs to be quite strong, dropping off a wave when heeled over puts a lot of stress on that connection.
We put davits on our 356 and would not be without them. They are high enough we can still use the helm seat, swim platform or guests can visit with the dinghy up. We often keep the engine on the dinghy when we lift it.
We bought our davits from Ocean Marine Systems (http://www.oceanmarinesystems.com) they used to supply the davits to Hunter and so had access to each new model. The company owner answers the phone and is quite knowledgable, probably worth a call even if you decide to buy from another supplier. I'm just a satisfied customer.

I also have Ocean Marine Davits and a happy camper for sure,I got them used from another
Hunter owner and Ocean Marine was very helpful for sure and pretty sure they can help you.
Get the double cross bar support for stopping any swinging side ways.

Hey Nick, (me again!)
I have just been researching your very helpful posts......I have the dingy davits, but they have been poorly fitted which has cracked the gel coat where they pass through the deck. They need a support from the pushpit. I am thinking a triangulated brace. Could I ask for a photo of your set-up please?
Best wishes,
Neil

Neil, check out the photos on the site and the installation manual for the Ocean Marine davits, it has a number of tips in it, http://www.oceanmarinesystems.com/INSTRUCT.pdf

Our davits attach to the pushpit with a swivel block and then go straight down to sit on the gelcoat with a backing plate. The plates sitting on the gelcoat is quite small, about 1"x2" with two 3/8" bolts.

I don't have any good pictures of the davits without the dinghy on it. The picture in my post above is probably the best I have of how they attach to the boat.

Thanks again Nick & Bob,
I have different davits to the Ocean Marine.
The muppet that installed them had not braced them to the pushpit, so they have cracked the gell coat where they are fitted. I will knock up some braces to support the davits.....will post some photos when I am done.
