I Have Always Liked...
...the Maptech Cruising Guides. I have three editions - Maine Coast (from our 2002 Cruise), RI, MA, & NH (I'm on the third upgrade), and LI Sound (often visited/used). They are detailed and newsworthy. They always give me exactly what I need for port news and contacts for pre-planning. They are also excellent supplements to the Chart Kit books produced by Maptech which cover wide-range areas. For your cruise, it sounds like you might want to get the Maptech Cruising Guide to the Atlantic Coast. Otherwise, it would be two guides - LI Cruising Guide and RI, MA and NH Cruising Guide. Also for much detail is the Cruising Guide to the New England coast by Roger Duncan, et al, which gives very detailed, historical port information.
