Sharing with other Hunter owners is great. Our 2004 Hunter 41 batteries are okay, but after 7 seasons we are looking to replace them. What do you think of AGM batteries? What is your recommendation?

Thank you!

Islandgirl, what size are you looking at? 27 or 31? 6v or 12v?

I believe AGM have different charging voltages from wet cells. Does your charger and alternator have an adjustment for that battery type? You would be setting yourself up for more problems if either cannot be adjusted.

For the house batteries we went with four Trojan 105s - result is 12 v and 450 amps.
We also have one type 27 deep cycle starting battery. Battery monitor is a Linklite.
Our backup for days on the hook is a Honda eu2000i Companion with the built in 30 amp plug. Just plug in your shorepower cord. It will run 8 hours on a gallon of gas.

We run with 2 group 31's but I think we may go with the 6v next time because of the hassle of installation and removal! But we have come up with a good pulley system which helps!

My own preference would be to go with what Canuck recommends- stay with 6V and build it to whatever extent you want or have room for. One of the reasons I like that setup is the flexibility. If you've got a 12V sealed battery (AGM, whatever), let's say a pair of 4D's for the house, if a cell or two goes south on you, you'll have to replace the entire battery. If you lose a cell or two on a set of wet 6V batteries, just yank that one battery and replace it. The cost will be waaaaaaaaaaaaaay less expensive.
