I need to replace my rub rail and obtained the rubber from Blue Water Yachts (nice folks). This is a flexible one piece item that goes around the hull from and to the transom cutout. I'm told that it takes a good amount of pull to keep from puckering and about three tubes of sealant. I'm thinking of using the mast-raising system bolted to a 5 foot 6"x8" wood beam and use the winch to apply tension. I'd appreciate any suggestions or experiences from you. Thanks.

Sunshine and good rubber mallett

There has been a good deal of banter on this subject at the Com Pac forum. I assume the rails are very similar. WHat I remember is to remove the old one, clean and replace sealant and tighten hull bolts. Then make sure the new rail is warm. Most often written was to leave out in the Sun and then start putting it on. A good rubber mallett is required but have not heard about pulling it to keep it tight. Hope someone has replaced this and can give you more help. Steve

hot water

if you put the rubber in a bucket of warm water it should be more flexable. as they say,,,,, heat and beat remember they do shrink some. a warm day in the sun helps too

rub rail, question Steve Paul...

Steve or anyone, I'd like to know where that ComPac forum is or any other links on replacement of th rub rail. I was planning on a new rub rail as a project this winter. The wife actually wants to help. We got fumes on our first overnighter and learned venting quite quickly. Now it's time due to leaks and the first signs this summer of dry rot. Thanks for the help all.

Two sites

http://com-pacowners.com/forum/index.php http://groups.yahoo.com/group/com-pac/ These are the two forums. I believe the CP 23 is most like your boat in terms of rub rail. I suspect a search of the archives or a posted question on rub rail replacement will get you plenty of answers. The "trailer sailor site" might be an excellent place as well but I don't visit there. Thank you for your replies

I appreciate your replies they are very helpful: heat rubber, tighten bolts, clean and apply sealant, 3M 5200. A seach of the subject in the archives of this forum didn't produce an answer unless I overlooked it. The Com-Pac forums are full of good info. Still searching for rub rail replacement. Thanks for the tip.
