Dual Masthead...
I've done the same as Stu to an extent. I don't know if I'd want to be without a light as newsailor suggests, no matter where you are. If they can't see you, they can't avoid you!The item Stu is talking about is called a fish tape, and is very helpful in pulling through the mast. They come in fiberglass or spring steel. Get a fifty footer as it will come in handy in almost any project where you have to get wire from pt. a to pt. b! It's what I do for a living

Stu has it down pat too, the only other suggestion I'd make is to look into the masthead/steaming light combo. I did this to raise my steaming light and to do away with the one 3/4 up the mast. The plastic was in bad shape on the old one, and had been chewed up by the halyards running past it. I didn't tap the mast head as Stu did, I just found some small machine thread screws, put them through from the bottom so they were near flush and used a bolt on top. This keeps anything from being in the way of your halyards running through up there. The only problem I ran into was finding a decent through deck fitting, and the one I did find really isn't acceptable. It will work for now, but will be replaced eventually. I have to find something that I think will last a long time first!Josh
