I've just purchased a Halyard Organizer Plate from Rudy at D&R Marine. It's stainless, and is intended to fit under the existing stainless hinge plate on the O'Day 25. I haven't had much experience installing anything like this, and want to try to get it right the first time... My thought is to use 3M 4200 to bed the organizer to the deck, and also 3M 4200 between the organizer and the hinge plate., and on the bolt threads. (My thinking is to avoid the 5200 so that I could eventually remove the plate if I ever decided to.) Any pros/cons to consider? Also, given the added thickness of the new plate & sealant, will I need to replace the 4 original bolts with slightly longer ones? Anything else I should be thinking about so that I don't goof this up? Thanks! Sean

Just did this

I just finished this myself. The factory bolts worked out just fine. I used the 4200 and had no problems.Use a vice grip on the nuts if you don't have some one to help.

installing Halyard Organizer Plate

I was just reading the post about installing the Halyard Organizer Plate , I also bought one from D&R. I did not realize you have to bolt it to the cabin also. I thought it would just fit under the mast. Am I wrong in assuming this??

What you have to do is remove the mast Tabernacle from the cabin. There are four bolts that hold it on. You need to put the plate under the Tabernacle. The four holes should line up. If not, you may need to drill them out to fit. You can get a rough idea by holding the plate over the Tabernacle and eye balling the holes or take measurements. Clean the area well, and use a good Polysulfide caulking like 3M Marine Adhesive Sealant Fast Cure 4000 UV. Coat the deck under the plates with it, and also the portion of the bolts that go through the plates and fiberglass. Just get the nuts snug. when the caulking sets up, come back and re-tighten the nuts down while keeping the bolts from turning. I wouldn't use silicon on this, though some people use it and may have gotten good results with it. The polysulfide is what is commonly used.
