I am looking for a small headsail to use on my C22 when heavier fall winds knock down my 110. Hope to use a jib off a day sailer, like a Cape Cod Mercury, etc. have one lead for a sail with foot of 6' and luff of 12'. Should I aim for something smaller? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Storm Jib

You might try a storm jib for a Catalina 22 sold by The Sail Warehouse (they advertise in MainBrace). I like mine with the mainsail reefed in the gusty winds of Fremont Lake, WY. This summer I had just bent it on but had not yet reefed the mainsail. A gust hit and the port aft shroud bolt snapped. Immediately lowered mainsail and sailed back to dock with just the storm jib with mostly a cross wind, not even needing to start the outboard. The bolt had failed from corrosion not seeable from the deck or the cabin side. Replaced all shroud bolts and chainplates a la Catalina Direct (they delivered parts from Sacremento to Pinedale within 3 days via UPS) and the Sylvan was back in on the blue in a week.
