Building a rudder
My homepage at http://www.garycgibson.us has a bronze metalworks hyperlink where you might be able to track down the 1 inch bronze shaft needed for a C-22. My rudder is presently broke, and I am away from the boat and don't have the right length dimension. The page above also has hardware urls for rudders. Here is a link for someone that rebuilt his C-22 rudder assembly--http://www.chryslersailing.lizards.net/sail_rudder.html A rudder is fairly simple to build; at the bottom of the 1" shaft is a sort of inverted flag shape/trapazoid metal frame welded on. Most welding shops could weld on the metal frame shape. On that frame one builds a plywood and foam core, finished off with some resin or epoxy (available at west marine for example). Rudders have an ogilvie surface and should be balanced on either face surface in order to let water flow evenly. Search engines provide data on how to build a rudder, etc. If you have the length dimensions for the C-22 rudder (the model with the 1000 lb iron keel) please post that if you will. Best wishes, Gary C. Gibson
