Boats still in the water and the winds have turned unexpectanatly from the north. Temps tonight are expected to go down to -5 deg. Celcius ( 23 F ) and a wind chill of -10 ( 14 F ). The Bay / lake water temps are still 12 deg ( 53 F ).

Tomorrow is expected to go to 41 F and then down to 32 Wed. night and then stay above freezing until the weekend. I was planning on winterizing this weekend.

The fresh water tank is still full and water still in the pipes and the engine is still in summer mode. Should I be panicked about anything freezing up or will the lake water temps keep the boat from freezing up. I'm 2 hours away from the boat and its 6 pm, getting dark, which would mean getting back home after midnight.

Forget about it. Nothing is going to freeze.

You need the constant deep freeze we get in November to February to freeze up anything you mentioned.
We are getting similar temps down here in Bronte, yet it was nice to sit in the cabin this afternoon listening to the 35 to 40 knot wind blowing the leaves around and enjoying a couple of season end brews. Pump out tomorrow afternoon - haul out Sunday morning at 9 am.

You'll be fine.

Scott,

You'll be fine. One night with warm lake water won't freeze your boat. I am fairly certain you'll be ok if you wait till this weekend..

Re: Forget about it. Nothing is going to freeze.

That's kinda what I was thinking, but just needed some more opinions.

I'm sched. to be pulled on Tues. Was out overnight this past Sat. night. Daytime inside the enclosure was perfect, night was a litle cool. Saw about 6 boats out sailing Sunday with a good south wind 8-10 knots.

I keep several plastic bottles of water out side and also a couple of bird baths. The nights that you discribe will form skim ice on the bird bath and perhaps a few crystals in the bottles but nothing will freeze solid without 12 hours of 20 degrees F.

you should be fine!

remember that your boat is sitting in 53deg f water. this will have the affect of being a warm sink. if your boat was on the hard, then it would be a different ballgame. the warm water will keep your boat warm.

I was driving home from work and the weather forecast caught me off guard. Just over a week ago we were out in t-shirts and shorts for our Thanksgiving weekend and tonight they're talking windchill. I had a suspicion the lake water would keep the boat warm, but was also trying to make a snap decision whether I head up right away to the boat and try to get home before the sun rose without thinking it through.

WARNING-GO NOW! Do not wait!! With the weather turning cold you need every excuse you can to go to the boat..besides, the sooner you winterize the weather will turn warm again and the rest of us that did not winterize will go enjoy another weekend on the boat!
(just in case you can't tell, I am being very sarcastic. relax, you will be okay...but you know you could..just in case...)

It's not like I need an excuse to go to the boat, and certainly can't wait until the warmer weather gets here again, so anything that'll help speed it along is more than welcome !!!!:dance: But even a wind chill of -10 is a bit much for anything bit skiing, but there's no snow stuck on the ground yet. Although we had flurries this afternoon. :cussing:

Oh, and sacrcasm is my middle name..... just ask my wife and kids... they'll tell you. :D

It snowed today. About 5 cm. (that's about 2") in Lagoon City on lake Simcoe. I pulled out of the water on Sunday and winterized on Monday. But if you are in the water, not to worry. Like others have said, not cold enough to be concerned.

Now I have to wait until it melts to get the cover on.

Wind chill is the apparent temperature your skin feels with wind blowing against it. It has nothing to do with the true temperature on other surfaces.

Don't worry... be happy

If it does freeze (which it probably won't) ... it won't be solid. You have time... don't worry. Get it done by November.

Thanks for all the replies. It's supposed to be rainy and wet this weekend, but warmer. Should be a good day to do the inside winterizing stuff.
