we were greasing the winch and lost the tiny spring that puts tension on the pawl...any idea who made cheoy lee parts or if there is a similar spring that can be used??..it is a 1980 41 offshore. also need another pawl for the other winch..These are not primary winches they are mast winches.

You need to find what company manufactured the winches - Harken, Lewmar, Barient, ... ?? after which finding the replacement part is easy as any of the winch mfgs sell replacement springs.

Post a pic of the winch or look at the cap or sheet tailor on which the name should be prominent.

If not, take a look on yachtworld.com et.al. for similar boats for sale. The description typically includes the mfg of the winches.

Or....... you could take one of the pawl springs you didn't lose into the largest west marine store you can find in the Tampa Bay area and try matching it up with what they have in stock.... I found Barient/Barlow replacement springs at the big WM store in san diego... but truthfully... I had put a lewmar spring in a barlow winch and it still worked fine... before I stumble across the Barient set.

I don't know what winches you have, but on my old C&C I had Barients. At some point, one had some broken pawl springs. I happened to have a Lewmar rebuild kit so I tried the springs and pawls in the Barient. Worked nicely. So take a look at what you have in your winches now and compare that with some available rebuild kits. You might get lucky.
