Need a new boom for Hunter 336

Hunter 336 1995 Wellington
I managed to break my boom in half on a sail up the New Zealand coast, and need a new one. All of the hardware and boom ends are still intact, so really only need the boom extrusion if I can buy it. Does anyone know the contact for manufacturer or closest agent to New Zealand? I could not find any markings on the boom.

I would rather replace the original unless there is a good reason to get a new one made.

I suggest checking out a high quality rigging company like www.rigrite.com. I've linked a "spars" section from their website here that might inspire you. Some one here may be able to identify your boom's manufacturer...i.e... Kenyon, Isomat, etc. but if not, I noticed the site provides cross sectional views so you're looking good. Finally, I expect a customer service rep at rig rite will get you hooked up. Good luck... have fun.

Thanks for the links. There are some that look close but dimensions are wrong. I have contacted RigRite and will see what they can offer.

@Kiwidrew

what model boat do you have as it is a 1995 per you? Any markings on either end of the boom or about six feet above the mast
base? Do you see Z Diffusion on either mast or boom? Former Hunter dealer now retired.
Welding the broken boom is not recommended as there are too many forces on that boom That will break that boom.
Let me know and I will give you my suggestions what to do

I could not see any markings on it, and will not get back to boat for a couple of weeks to look more closely. Also not sure what difference in models is for a 336? This Sparcraft section seemed to be the closest but is about 1/2 the dimensions Sparcraft FB-36 Boom

@Kiwidrew Sorry I can't help you with finding the replacement boom but hopefully you'll sort that out soon.

To help us (particularly me) avoid a similar failure could you provide some description as to what caused the failure. My guess would be a sudden accidental jibe in stiff wind with mid-boom sheeting (based on the location of the break). I too, have mid boom sheeting so the thought of an accidental jibe. I don't mean to put you on the spot but learning what happened can provide a precautionary tale for us. Thanks again and if you'd rather not re-live it that's okay too.

Yes, you are right. It was an accidental jibe, caused by a following wind and 2m swell. We predicted it could happen and instead of rigging a limiter line, opted to try and control the jibe with mainsheet on the winch. This placed additional strain on the boom when it swung across, instead of spreading the load across the full rig. Interested in whether this assessment seems correct. Luckily it was during daylight! We were about 100 nm out of port with another 450 nm to go. We could have headed for the closet port, but opted to lash the boom and main to the deck and carry on under foresail and motor. Still averaged 5.5 kts for the whole voyage. It was a huge adventure for my first coastal sailing experience.

Mast Mfg probably different. Long story but a few of us know. Suggest waiting two weeks till you go back to the boat. It could be a Selden boom too
