Looking for a trailer for a 1986 25.5 deep keel. I am in the Memphis area but will travel. Hoping to lease or rent trailer but will consider all options. Any info is helpful. Thanks.

25.5 trailer

Dave I am sorry to tell you this but I looked into a trailer a few months back and had zero results. But I did find out that it is cheaper to move one by boat transport, than buy a trailer, unless you want to move it often.Remember the boat is wider than eight feet and will need a permit and in some states a pilot car. I hope this gives you some insite. good luck "MIC"

You're right

Thanks Mic, and yes you are correct. I called all over the country yesterday, and Quality Trailers said they would be more than happy to make me one..for $4295 or so...So I will probably just have the dealer haul it for me and put it on stands, for about 12 months, then back in the water..Thanks for the reply.

New trailer

I bought a new aluminum trailer last summer to transport our newly aquired 25.5. I first looked all over for a used trailer with no luck. I ended up buying a new aluminum triler for a little under $3000. I towed it from Virginia to Houston, TX with no problems and was not stopped to ask for a permit. I think it was a good investment. How much do they charge for the yard space and stands? In my area it is about $20/day.

Who makes trailer

Dan, who was the mfg who made your trailer? I don't know about yard costs yet, but to haul it about 90 miles and out it on stands is $675....TOO MUCH !

trailer manufacturer

My trailer is made by American High performance trailers in Florida. It is a very nice trailer although I still need to make a keel guide for it. They do offer a sailboat kit for their trailers but it simply consists of tall bunks on square aluminum posts. I had to have the boat hauled in a travelift to get it on the trailer the first time to get the balance right and center the keel. I also made myself a tongue extension to back it into the water. Once I have the keel guides done I plan to haul it at my local boat ramp. One caution: you have to have a very long and deep boat ramp to be able to pull it out successfully if you plan to try. I would recommend a travelift for the deep keel though. If you want the contact info for American let me know by e-mail at dlafon@usa.com
