My 1983 Hunter sank in hurricane Katrina. She is afloat and engine running. I have rebuilt the instrument panel with all new parts but I do not know where one small wire goes. It is a red wire with a black stripe and a circular lug on the end. I think it goes on the post with the red or white wire on the key switch. can anyone confirm where that wire goes. The wire color is the same as the one that goes to all the indicator lights on the panel.I do not want to damage anything. Thanks, Keith

Keith, According to the...

wiring diagram from Yanmar for the 1GM a Red/Black wire connects to the Key Switch at the terminal where a white wire comes from the Push Button Switch. The other terminal on the Key Switch is full red being the (+) feed. The red/black continues from the Key switch to individually power the warning lamps and continues as a red to the buzzer. Your red/black wire is just a continuation of the (+) feed with the key switch acting as a circuit interrupt. Good luck buddy.

Thanks so much for the help, another question

One more question Benny. What is the hook up for the wiring harness to the alternator and the starter. I bought a new engine harness also. I had the Yanmar book but it sunk with the boat. I bought a MATCO aftermarket starter and will buy and aftermarket starter. I did hook up the red/black wire as you indicated. Anyway you could scan the wiring diagram and email it to me at : "keithsails@bellsouth.net"? That would be a big help when I hook up my alternator and starter to the harness and also connect the whole shooting match. I appreciate your help in the best way. It has been a struggle and getting this boat underway is the best thing about the recovery from the storm. Keith
