I am interested in purchasing a 1983 Catalina 30. I'd like to verify that I like the lines of the boat. The photos are great but there is nothing like seeing the real thing. Any suggestions as to how how I can find out where the closest 30 exists?

Any boat yard

Hello, I bet that if you go to any marina or any boat yard you will find at least one Catalina 30. They are that popular. BTW, is it me, or do boats look very different on land vs on water? Barry

Re; any boat yard

Barry, thanks for your suggestion but the obvious is not as obvious as you think. I've been sailing in Maritime Canadian waters for over thirty years and visited many marinas, and have not noticed many Catalinas, if any. I realize that they are extremely popular in the U.S. but Maritime Canadian waters are mostly full of C and C's and J Boats with the odd Mirage, Beneteau and Jenneau thrown in. To my understanding the Maritimes does not even have a Catalina dealer. Our sailing season is short so there has historically not been room for too much competition. In response to your BTW comment, I think that they look good anywhere, but they look best when they are anchored in front of my cottage on Bellisle Bay. Thanks, Dave

On the net

Go here and find the closent one to you in your state or province, hop in the car and go have a look. Unless you drive a ways you will not find many out of winter storage. http://www.yachtworld.com/core/listing/yw_advanced_search_form.jsp

Sorry Dave

My Mistake! I have looked at boats in the north east, south east, and west coast (all USA). Usually you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Catalina 30. I didn't realize they would be so rare in Canada. I was in Nova Scotia in August, and I did see a C30 on the Bras D'Or lake. Barry

Thanks Again Barry

Thanks for the boat location. Excellent application of 'swinging a dead cat'.

Dave, I have a '88 Catalina 30 kept at the Rothesay Yacht Club - just a few miles away from you. There is also an '85 and '81(???) stored there as well, but they are already covered for winter.... I would be happy to contact you off list to discuss the boat....
