I'm sure there are many of us using this app. I just bought myself a 4th generation iPad to play with. I have been using my Eldridge Tide and Current book when planning my weekends. Playing with this app I see the current arrows with drop down charts showing time and speed. My book is on the boat so I can't compare the two. Anyone been using this app long enough to validate its accuracy? It's comforting to know I am going through woods hole with a favorable current

I can Bob. We have been using that app as our primary navigation planning instrument for the past 3 years. We still use Eldridge and paper charts too. So often I will be at the helm with the iPad. I would have plotted a coarse and be tracking progress using the Navionics app. My wife will have the Eldridge and paper charts. She will follow our progress on the paper charts and check tides/currents in the Eldridge. At night we will review the next days potential coarse and compare. Never found a problem. The only issue is you can only look about a week ahead.

I have the navionics app on my iPhone and like it as a reference check. I never tried loading it on my first generation IPad because I didn't think the app was compatible with the older OS. Now that this iPad is older and probably needs replacement anyway, I should probably attempt to load the app. Has anyone else tried to use an older iPad for this?

I do. No problems at all.

I use Navionics to record every sailing trip but all we do is day sail and have no currents to worry about so not sure about that accuracy.

Last year I used it on a iPad 1 with no problems. The Garmin App would not run on the iPad 1 but I like the Navionics better so no big deal there.

If you do run Navionics on multiple devices, like an iPhone and iPad, it syncs your data between the two devices.

I have the Navionics+ on the plotter, and on the 'pad. The only concern I would have with relying on the 'pad is that it will, if it sits in the direct sun for a while, overheat and shut itself off till it cools down. That could be a bad thing if it did that while you were staring at the entrance to a place you've never been.
Cheers
