hey everyone, I'm trying to reverse engineer a navik which is missing some parts. Does anyone have any photos of the all the linkages on a navik? The manual doesnt show all of them, and i need to know what to fab up. Thanks so much.

Karl,
Which area of the vane are you referring to?
- the paddle
- the main upright and quadrant
- the 'wagging' vane

I have a Navik installed so maybe I can help with some pictures.

hey peter, thanks so much. my vane is missing the turret, the control rod (links the vane and the paddle), and at least half the linkage that takes the contol arm down movement thru the bulkhead to the paddle jointed connector. The half of the linkage i have looks like a stainless post welded to a flat with a ball for a socket on the end, i just wondered what the control rod to jointed connector linkage looks like, as i'll have to find or fab one up. Thanks so much.

Hmmm ... sounds like your missing some serious pieces. I'll snap pictures of every part I can think of when next at the boat (soon) and post a link to an album on the web, rather than overload the Yahoo pictures site.

All, I hesitate to write this as I don't want to be inundated with
responses. But I have a Navk (that is missing a few parts) and I am going
to sell what I have. I will sell it very reasonably plus packing and
shipping by UPS. The biggest problem is shipping unless you live in the
greater Seattle/Puget Sound area. It is pretty big and not all that light. I
really don't want to disassemble the thing more than it is (right now it is
in three big pieces wind vane assembly, main frame assembly, and water
paddle) -- so it would take a large box.

Here is what I think I have (I have never used a Navik as I have used
Monitor on my other boat that I did have a vane on) - The paddle and trim tab that goes in the water -- appears complete.
- The main frame unit with the tubes and the wood thing that takes the
rope and a couple turning blocks. This also has the tall vertical post. Plus
I found some brackets for mounting it to the boat (I think that is what they
are for).
- The black turret thing and the swivel/ratchet thing that fits into it
that the wind vane attaches to. Not sure what the condition of this is, but
have it. I can see that some of the degree markings have been worn off.
- The wind vane blade with counter weight -- it says Navik on it, so it
is an original I guess. It does have a very slight warp in it, but it is
very minor and I suspect it would be easy to straighten with a little weight
and moisture.
- What I think is missing is the rod that connects the top wind vane to
the water paddle. Well I have part of it. I have the top swivel fitting and
part of the shaft that appears cut off a couple inches below the top. I
can't find the bottom of the shaft or the bottom swivel fitting (which is
probably the same as the one on top).I am selling this as I am not going offshore for a few years because of some
commitments I have and when I do I will probably buy a new unit.

Price: I have no idea what it is worth.
