I came across this link provided by the Army Corps of Engineers, posted by a sailor looking for a way to get to the Ocean from Occidental NC.
Not knowing the current conditions of the Oregon Inlet he called the Coast Guard. They told him information that conflicted with the info being shared on the docks by the locals about shoals and water way buoys.
