Navigating the Barnegat Inlet

I've noticed that we have more than just a few NJ hunter owners here. I hope that I can get some info from the old salts among us regarding the above-mentioned inlet?As some of you are aware, our Lil' Wass Ett is an H23 with 5-HP outboard (we're holed up at the Good Luck Point marina). I would LOVE to take her out the inlet on a nice day, but we keep hearing how very horrible it is to navigate. Wouldn't it be a relatively easy trip to make at slack tide on a day when the ocean is calm? Am I correct in assuming that I'd have to stay out until the next slack tide? Jim, We were held back by the doom and gloomers who never ventured off the western shore of Barnegat Bay for a long time. We make a few trips each year now,Go on a calm day, watch the bouys to stay in the channel, you will have little trouble. Be very aware there is a swift current, so plan your first outing near slack tide. If you get out there and decide not to do it there is room to turn back.When you see the size of the boats the guys fish from, you will feel better. Best of luck.
