I am interested in installing a Navico A WP300cx on a H376. The standard installation is for a Pedestal mounting. Has anyone had any experience in installing this wheelpilot on a console like the H376? I would appreciate any information on experience with Navico autopilots as well. thanks. mkosier@mindspring.com

No Adapter for Navico

We tried to get the Navico last year but the company did not have the adapter for the console installation. They were working on it and we were going on a trip and couldn't wait. Used Autohelm instead. Also needed a part to adapt to console. Works well. Helen

Autohelm 4000 vs 5000

We ordered our 376 new with an Autohelm 5000. I have previously used both a 3000 and a 4000 on other boats and can say the 5000 is far superior. It is not only much quieter, but it tracks much better, especially in a following sea. It is also a much cleaner installation. There are two cautions. First a sprocket needs to be installed to connect the wheel shaft to the auto pilot. Make sure it is a non ferris material. You will also need to raise the ship's compass about 6 in. to avoid interference from the auto pilot motor. Purchase and install a collar from the compass manufacturer. I believe the 4000 would be a mistake also , because you are close to the upper limit of the weight limitation for the unit.
