I have the opportunity to purchase a good used Navico 5000 Wheel Pilot and remote control. The price is very reasonable ($250) verses a new current type model. I am wondering for those of you that have one or have had one, what were your experiences? I sail on Lake Michigan and mainly do day sails with occasional lake crossing and cruising. Does it do a good job of steering? Is it worth the low cost or would it be best to just save my money and purchase a new AutoPilot?
Do these units hold up well? I realize they are no longer supported and parts are somewhat difficult to find, but for the amount I would be using it, I am thinking it might work for me for 3 or 4 years.
