Nav Station Set up

I am planning on rearranging the set up of my nav station over the winter. I currently have an Apelco DXL 6500 Loran and an AR16 Radar. The current set up requirs the loran to be powered up before the radar will work. With the fade out of loran, can the DXL6500 be removed or does the radar require it's input. Eventually I plan on installing a GPS unit at the Nav station with a repeater at the helm and the autopilot tied in. If the AR 16 requires an external input will it accept it from the current GPS units.

NMEAU 0183 V1.5

The radar should "work" without the loran swithced on. You should be able to see and aquire targets. It does loose some functionality without position input. The position input is coming via your loran on it NMEA 1083 V1.5 output. You should be able to find a modern GPS that has a selectable NMEA output. This output would need to be selectable to NMEA 0183 V1.5 .
