Naming conventions

Hi All.
Protocol question. When I got my boat Vega 3175 she didn't have a name
even on the registration so I named her Gala. This season I'm saning
off the crappy paint job and doing it right but I found that beneath
the crappy paint was her original name, Harmony. Now I like both names
but I'm thinking that perhaps going back to the original name is the
thing to do. Any thoughts? I'm not especially superstitious but I also
try not to walk under ladders unnecessarily.

On a boat I recently painted (also with no name) I found the
name "Ginger" under about three layers of paint. I didn't re-use it,
but "Harmony" sounds like a winner to me.

I renamed a boat once. A friend of mine gave me a set of rules for
renaming a boat the right way. It involves pouring a little bit of
wine overboard in four dierections and saying something to Poseidon.
It also involved drinking wine ourselves and hors d'oeuvres. We did
it exactly by the book and had a headache to prove it. If anyone
would like to know the proper way to rename a boat I'd be happy to

Bad luck to re-name a boat unless you've run aground. The good news is that
I've run aground enough times that everyone in the group can re-name their
boat several times. Walt

I'm glad to here that. I ran aground off east head in Chichester Harbour a
few weeks ago, so I will store that up in case I think of a name I like...

Hi All

This is a secret - between you, me and the rest of the Vega Brotherhood.
Never follow Mike Freeman and his Vega "Jenavive" or you will
undoubtably run aground, even in his own waters. Not a bad thing but he
was President of the Local Lifeboat Association and is chairman of the
VAGB Remember this is a secret and don’t tell him I said
anything.......
