I just bought an international 470 from 1977 that does not have a name on the hull. Is it considered bad luck to give it a name? It may have had a name at one point but a repainting could have covered it. I just don't want to tempt fate on the water :) thanks

I searched the same idea not long ago... lots of varying ceremonies http://www.48north.com/mr_offline/denaming.htm http://www.bitwrangler.com/wt/renaming.shtml Of course, not having a visible name, you'll want to cover every name possible in the book to make sure the previous name is stricken from the vessle....... good luck ;)

Ever checked the archives here?

Type in "renaming a boat" and watch the past discussions pop up in the hundreds.

the name game

It is bad luck for a vessel NOT to have a name. I'm surprised she hasn't sunk yet!
