From Milford what can I expect as an estimated travel time to Mystic. We will be traveling on our 1986 HUNTER31. This will be the first MAJOR cruise for Serenity's crew of my wife and I and our 11,9,5 year old. Any suggestions, comments, "pointers" that may be helpful for this voyage would gratefully be appreciated. Is there alot for the kids at this rendezvous? Looking for feedback.

Mystic's Great

Alan, You'll love the Rendezvous! I don't knnow anything about your sailing distance, but I sailed to the last one from Cape Cod with 12 & 10 year olds and they still talk about it. Lots of kids, pool on shore for the kids :))) etc... Hunter 17 races, games, lots of food. It's great for the parents too, including those traveling without children. Lots of socializing, little racing, and all in all a great time. Not familiar with your sailing area though so others will have to answer that, but I know Hunter will put on a great event. BTW we sold our Hunter 380 also named Serenity, to a couple from CT, perhaps they'll be there as well. Have a blast! Bob Knott Currently boatless on Cape Cod :-(

10-12 hours

I'm in Westbrook and it takes me 5 - 6 hours to Mystic. Current and Wind not withstanding. I also figure it would take me about the same time to get to Milford from Westbrook. so thats how I figure it would take that long. Dave 1982 Hunter 33 Katie J. Pilots Point Westbrook CT.

Milford to Mystic

The distance is about 43nm. If you can maintain a SOG of 6 knots that would be around 7 hours. Check current in sound as this will make difference on SOG. We will be there as well. Len Fagan "Tale Winds"

Alan, I live in Milford too. I've done that trip.

It can be done in one day, but given the normal summer light winds, you'll have to motorsail to do it in a day. My personal best sailing was a 9:30AM start from Mystic Shipyard with a 6:30PM arrival at the Anchorage off Charles Island. I hit the tides and wind perfectly in order to do it. I have a H29.5. I would check the mileage on the charts. It seems to me that it's farther than 43 miles. It's about 70-75 statute miles by car on I-95 which is a pretty straight shot. My charts are on the boat, but I checked Eldridge which lists 59.9 miles to Ram Island from Stratford Point. You'd have a run up the river to Mystic of a couple miles from there. I would guess it's closer to 60nm. If you want to sail, a logical stop off is in Clinton where there is a pool for the kids and a small restaurant in the Marina. You can make it in a 2 day relaxed sail easily without any sweat. Check Eldridge for currents because Mystic is East of the Race. A helping current up to the Race hinders you after you pass the Race and vice versa. If they put you on the North side of Mystic Shipyard's docks, stay within about 50-75 ft off the docks when entering/leaving. There's a mud shoal just North of the docks. Just don't ask me how I found out. Mystic Seaport is a short distance away, Mystic Aquarium a little farther. The kids will definitely find something that interests them. If you have any other questions, give me a call, I'm in the book.
