Mystery Vent? Catalina C30..Newbie Question

Hello,
I am a very new owner of a 1984 Catalina C30 Tall Rig...I have a very weird question regarding what I thought was a vent of some kind over the V-berth on our boat. There is a rectangular piece of plastic about a foot straight forward of the main V-berth hatch. It looks to be about 4"wide by 10" long and in a yellow (faded off white grated looking plastic). It looks like something used to set on top of this as it will leak through to the berth as I now have it sealed shut temporarily.
I thought maybe it was some type of solar vent, however I have only seen them round?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Catalina put these in so light was available in the V berth everthing is fine do not play with it

Sky Light

It's Catalina's idea of a sky light. I have a 1984 Catalina 30 and it lets a lot of light in the V berth. Cover it with a towel in the daylight and you can see the difference. We cover it at night so we can sleep in the next morning. :)

My 1st 1985 Catalina had the skylight as well. Recommend caulking with a good quality silicone around the outer perimter every few years. Mine would sometimes leak during a real gusher rainstorm.
