I have a 1978 Cherubini Hunter 30 that has a mystery rod sticking out of the mainsail boom. Tight will not move in or out. Have looked at hundreds of diagrams of the insides of different booms and can not figure out what this is. Attaching three photos, Thoughts and ideas are welcome.

Mine's a 79 and I've seen a number of 78s. The aft end of your boom is not OEM.
It would not have had the rod. Perhaps the boom or the whole rig was replaced.
Now, as to the purpose of the rod... Hopefully someone who's seen this rig can advise, but at the moment I haven't a clue. It may come to me after I study your set up further.

Beats me. WAG, perhaps a DIY job to act as an attachment point for a preventer line???

But seriously :-D Since you have internal lines, it may be for threading new lines or re-threading if one needs servicing etc.
I suspect it is intended to be removable but might have sat too long. The black piece on the end is just a forehead protector.
