I have always sailed small boats without cabins but recently purchased my 22'. I love it, by the way. Anyway, I just discovered a compartment under the cushions in the bow section. This box is lined with wood that has somewhat rotted. There appears to be a motor or pump of some sort at the bottom. What is this box and how important is it to be functional? Thank you.

Is it bigger than a bread box?

Paul, You got me. Maybe with a bit more information we can figure this out for you. I assume under the cushions in the v-berth is stowage. Is the box the stowage area, or something in the stowage area? How big is it? How deep? Is the bottom the hull, or is the box floored? My guess is that the motor is a bilge pump, though why its so far forward I couldn't tell you. If there is no other bilge pump aboard, I'd want it to work! Send us what info you can and we'll try to figure it out. Justin - O'day Owner's Web

BOX?

Must be something a previous owner installed, i just had my cushions out for a cleaning and the plywood is screwed down. There is a compartment that is open to the main salon, underneath the V birth. but no pump, and no wires leading to one.

Whats in ours

We have an 1984 222 Special Edition and in that area is a 5 gal jug which holds the fresh water for the sink.
