I'm new to the forum and have recently acquired a 17' sailboat.
I've spent some time refurbishing this boat and I''m looking for info as to what design it is.

Anyone recognize this boat?
Pictures attached.

Thank you,
Barrry

Can we see a clearer picture of the mainsail? If it's original, the manufacturer usually put their logo on it (like the big M for MacGregor or the light beam for a Laser). If nothing else, we could tell you more about the mainsail. ;)

Mainsail insignia kind of looks like 'Ls' but nothing like it found in Scott's link. Lots of interesting boats in that insignia listing though.

Love it

Do you have any pics of the inside?

She looks perfect for a day of sailing followed by a nice night at anchor in a cove.

Hello Folks,

Thank you for your replies.

Some added info:
The boat is similar to a Siren 17, but it is not.
I don't believe the sails are original, but I have contacted Larsen Sails http://www.larsensails.net(hence the LS sail logo).
Unfortunately Mr. Larsen is out sailing until March.
I believe it was built in Canada. I also believe that it is a Europen design(perhaps Dutch or German). I haven't been able to find any Identifying marks or hull I.D.
I stripped this boat down to a bare shell, and went right through it. I truly like the hull shape.

As an aside, I am a graduate of the Silva Bay Shipyard School: http://www.boatschool.com
I also own and sail a Sparkman and Stephens Blue Jay that I rebuilt and restored, as well as a 20" Gaff Sloop which I am in the process of restoring.

I'll post more photos today.

Best Regards,

Barry

Arrrg. I was actually on a boat like this about 8 yrs ago at the Fanshawe Yacht Club (don't be impressed. 'Yacht' has a wide meaning).

I remember the "bug-eyed" windows. I also remember thinking, "You'd need to be a contortionist to sleep on this. I'd be putting a full pressed ham in the front window trying to get my jammies on. Nobody needs to see that just after they ate."

I was looking for my first vessel at the time and knew it had to have sleeping quarters even for someone my height so I never paid attention to the make or model. Yes, I was a yacht snob.

Vandestadt & McGruer made the Siren 17, Sirius' (var sizes), Skunk 11 and the Spindrift 13 . They must have had a thing about S's. The Siren and the Sirius' are close but not quite.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their assistance in my investigation of this boat. I received the following info today from a sail maker in Quebec, and thought I would share it.

"Good day It is a Lis. It was built in Chomedy-Laval Quebec. You will find the date and serial number written in pencil at the tack of each sail. It is a German design. You have the cabin version. A dinghy version was built as well.
When I get back to work I will send you a pdf of the brochure.
It is a good little boat. I have replaced a couple of sails over the years.
I would imagine the boat was built in 1973 or so."

Thanks again, and best regards
Barry
