Mysterious hole in keel

This is my first year as the owner of a 1983 Hunter 31. I'm getting ready to paint the boat and I noticed a small hole in the keel. The hole is about 1/4 inch diameter and is at the top of the keel on the starbord side. It looks like it was put there on purpose (not random rust) but I'm not sure what it is for. My only guess is that it may be there to mount an anode in the iron keel. If that's not it I guess I should fill it before painting. Any help in solving this mystery would be appreciated.

I would take a picture and call Hunter. Some keels intentionally have a small hole for draining part of the keel that doesn't have any access. I believe it has something to do with trapped water that might freeze when you're boat is out of the water.

Mine has a small hole and I was told to leave it.
