Well, it was a glorious week end. The perfect temperature here in the Carolinas. 60 degrees in the mornings and 80 degrees at lunch time. Time to tackle the Radar Pole

I used a 2 inch sched 40 aluminum pipe and welded some gussetts for the stabilizers. I also had a lifting crane made for the outboard and had tabs welded for the flood lights. Used an Edson radar platform base found on Ebay. Added SAT and TV antenae holder I made from Starboard. It all came together and wiring was not too bad. A total of 3 electric and 4 coax runs plus radar cable. It is up for now. It will come down one final time before it becomes permanent. Next, I am building a Wind Generator pole. I will incorporate an LP tank craddle on the pole. I am running out of room.

Stern Chock??? You know, it did not even cross my mind. I just ran out and took a look. It is out of the way, however I can see that the mooring line may rub against the pipe on some angle. O well. Close enough.

The pole looks great. What kind of paint system did you use? And, as for the chock, I find the chocks on our boats are too damn small - no great loss if its covered up. The only thing I would check is that there are backing plates on your mooring cleats (there were none on mine) since the loads on the cleat may be more tensile and less shear without the chock.

Jim. I had planned to get the pole powder coated, but I am too impatient. Sunday morning, I broke out a small Wagner HVLP system that we use for latex and oil paints on baseboards, trim and moldings. We bought it to try out last year and everybody loves it. It gets used several times a week. Super easy to clean. I had some Emron left over from another project and I promtly shot two quick coats to see how it would look. Looks sleek. When I take it down for final fitting and drilling, I will shoot the last coat.
