My kitchen sink

Had to install a pump because the angle of the drain pipe was not enough to drain completely. I added it to the bottom switch on my upgraded switch panel. I used a utility pump found at harbor freight for 37 bucks. Now fast drain. I wanted it completely recessed so the galley would not hang up when slid across. I also made a cover for the sink. I use 2 dish pans for dishes and dump them in the sink to drain. I use the sink for shaving and brushing my teeth. I made a cutout in the winch storage area lid for my sprayer. Keeps it out of the way. It is also nice when the sprayer is not there to reach in a grab small items without removing the lid. Also convenient to the cockpit for rinsing sand off your feet. I push the galley back in for dish washing. I sometimes wash them in the cockpit. When done, I nest the dish pans together and leave the dishes in the dish pan for drying. I heat water for washing, in a tea kettle, not boiling, and rinse with the sprayer. This system works great. The sprayer is used for showers, just add a boiling hot tea kettle and sit in the cockpit floor and place the sprayer on the seat for a nice hot shower. Towels on the life lines for privacy. Bathing suits can be used if modesty is required. The garden sprayer is great. Never breaks, holds 2 gallons. Someone made one in black for solar heating with more of a shower head, just for boaters, I forget the brand. My sprayer can be adjusted to stream or mist. I like it just fine. Can't be accused of not taking the kitchen sink any more.

Ok, I'm inspired. (Thanks!) We have a Catalina 27 without a water tank. The galley is only a table with a small sink and drain hose, but no faucet. I can't decide if I want water or just take the sink out. A proper water tank and pump would be too expensive right now, so then what...? Ah, but today hubby and I were at out local HF where I saw your garden sprayer, and next to it was this:
15 gallon 12V sprayer

Hmmm...I wonder how hard it would be to rig this up to work as water to the sink? I think it could fit under the v-berth on the port side, then run the hose and wiring through the closet, to the sink. (The sink is on the other side of the closet wall and there's a battery under the sink.

Any thoughts?

Might be cool on a C22, if you needed that much water. Wonder if it would fit in the compartment forward of the potty on a C22. You wouldn't have to fill it full for a 3 day trip. If you don't use it as a HOT shower, and you could store it, it may work well. 15 foot hose would work. Shorten the wand. I would like to see how it sprays. I may check it out myself. I think it might work well on a C27. 100 bucks is not terrible for a tank with pump. Wonder what the dimensions are? I will stop and check this out next time I go up I95. I may be trading my Clorox bottles for this. I like living large on my small boat. It might be more reliable as the tank is pressurized with air and NOT pumped. I would still need my small one for hot showers. Time for a feasibility study.

Just found the manual. The pump on it looks similar to the one I bought for my sink drain. It looks like a well built pump. I will check this out. Trying to find dimensions.

The box was about a yard wide and maybe a foot-ish high. I read all the reviews and they were all good. One mentioned it sprayed 20 ft, but that was with the nozzle. I wonder what the pressure would be straight from the hoze. Yeah, 15 gallons is kinda big for our use- we don't have a shower- so we could likely go a while with it. If we put it in the port v berth we could fill it with a hose through the forward hatch.

Another review said the pump only ran when actually spraying, but I wonder if patching in a switch would be wise anyway.

Oh, and I got a coupon book ftom HF in the mail with a $50 off making it $79.99!

I would definitely put it on a switch and I would fuse it. Check the motor for amps and fuse it as close as possible over the rating. I may check it out tomorrow. I also have to measure my hatch opening and measure the tank. I carry a white RV hose on board for drinking and would also fill it through the front hatch. I may go for it if it fits.

I have a sink and a hand pump in my new boat.We used to put in a push button about knee height or a small switch on the floor to back up hand pumps in small RVs, that way you can wash your hands with your foot on the button. It's hard to pump and wash at the same time.Might help for what you guys are thinking.

Learned some here, but wondering about the shower thing. In Florida you just go out in the cockpit about 3 pm...you'll get your shower. :)

Very nice.
Love the bigger tank idea, would have great on our 27. If you do a semi permanent install think about a foot pump. Our 30 has one in addition to a pressure system. We use the foot pump pretty much exclusively. Uses no electricity and does not waste water running the tap not to mention you don't have to fiddle with a knob if your hands are dirty.

I've been meaning to stop by...

Well, the sprayer didn't fit...anywhere, really. It might have fit under the aft-end seat in the dinette, but it was just too far from our sink to be practical. I'm not giving up though; I think there's an easy solution somewhere.

I bought a generic water transfer type pump from HF to use in a camper/enclosed trailer project I'm working on. It could be installed any where and plumbed to any tank. I'll look tomorrow and see if I think it might work. Most of those pumps are diaphragm type and have an auto shut off when the pressure reaches a set point. It should, as mentioned, have a separate switch because when the water runs out the pump will run until power is shut off due to not being able to create pressure. The good news is other than draining your battery, the pump can run dry for a loooong time. I once walked by my camper and heard the pump running. It had been at least two days since I had left it on. I just knew it would be burned up, but it still operated perfectly.

Dgreen, your spray setup gave me an idea of how to forgo an electric pump for the sink water. I bought a cheap, small $7 sprayer and am adapting the PUMP to the water tank. Pressure without the fuss of an electric. THANKS, I never would have thought of it without your post.
