Our new (old) boat was delivered yesterday. Its a 1976 Hunter 30'. I knew it had a head, I just never paid much attention to what kind. I thought it had a hot water heater (original diagrams show one) but its missing. Turns out its a porta potty, and it looks like the prior owner ripped out the original equipment. The boat needs a lot of interior work, to include replacing the panel (wall) that seperates the head (port) and cabinet (starboard) from the main cabin. I would like to install a more permanent head, functional with holding tank and pumpout capability. It will be the easiest to do it now. It will also be the easiest to rip out the maze of old plumbing and make it maintainence friendly. My biggest problem at the moment is which head? My priorities are 1) its legal 2)it doesnt smell 3)its user friendly 4) I don't have to remortgage the house to pay for it. 5)I don't get grey hair and ulcers putting it in. Help!

Do you want a manual or electric toilet?
If manual, the best choice is the Raritan PH II, which has been rated best under $500 (costs about half that much) for decades. If electric, the Raritan SeaEra is the best "bang for the buck." The best source for a holding tank is Ronco Plastics...their catalog is at http://www.ronco-plastics.com They make top quality tanks for a very reasonable price and have more than 400 shapes and sizes to choose from. Hose: for 1.5" go with AVS96, made by Aussie Globe...$5/ft cut to any length direct from the mfr. Their website is at http://www.aussieglobe.com/avs96.htm For other sizes (head intake, tank vent) go with Shields or Trident #148 white sanitation hose. And finally...take Randall's advice (link below)>

PEGGY, My Hunter Legend 35 surrived Ivan - but is due for yard work. I had to remove the vanity shelves, sink and table top etc. Just about stripped the compartment bare except for the commode. The commode itself is only 11 inches high, too small for us bigAs_ guys and I would like to replace it. Are you aware of any Hunter people that have re-designed the head layout ? The original Hunter 1988 design and the 11 inch commode is just to small and tight for us. Any ideas on how I might put the head back together again at the end of the yard period? Oh yes, the only reasonable place on the HL 35 to put the AC unit is on the shelf under the vanity table. This also need be taken into consideration. RD
