We sailed in our first race with our 240 Wendsday night.Winds were 15 to 20 with gusts near 30.The course was a triangle, wndward, and downwind finish. The first leg we sailed with reefed main, then we shook out the reef for the rest of the race. There were 8 boats including ours, one 26 one 27 and the rest over 34.Considering I missed the start by a good 3 minutes,I think we did ok.We beat the 26 footer and only lost an additional 10 or 15 minutes to the winner.I forgot to mention the seas were 3 to 5.I think I can get some better performance out of the boat with more practice and a wisker pole, but even without the pole this boat hauls off the wind.I'll let everyone know when I beat these big money boats. -Carl-

Sounds great Carl

Get that whisker pole and you'll be even faster. For my 23.5 I made my own whisker pole from fittings I bought at west marine and an extendable boat hook. Even if you don't beat all those big boats you are out there having just as much or more fun. Frank

Carl, Good job! Hunter 240's flat haul the mail!

Can you run your course when it's not used? I have done that to get more experence on the course in our area. I also run it in reverse. This is easily said as there is only one race a year. I really wish we had the climate of your area. How much practice have you had before doing this? Can a person come down to the dock and beg a ride as a crewman to learn the rules and skills to do this? And lastly, it looks like the boat we probably could buy for our journey is in Ft. Lauderdale. Could we beg a ride on your boat when we look at this boat? We would let you know long before we arrive. You can catch us by E-mail on this site and I will reply to your address. Thanks, it sounds like a ball. Ray & Maria S/V Speedy
