Here is a pic of a tiller tamer that I designed myself for about $6 and it works great!! I tried the Davis one from WM ($40) and the Canadian one ($20)which lost it's tension after one season. I constructed this one out of one piece of pine/a spring loaded holder/ and a hinge (unseen on the bottom.... it folds up to about 3 feet for easy stowage). Has anyone else had sucess building a DIY unit? If anyone needs additional info or pix: kennybc22@sbcglobal.net

yeah

Piece of cotton line w/one loop around the tiller, shock cord on each end of the line. The cotton line has enough friction to hold the tiller where I want it for a couple minutes, but still allows me to handle the tiller. Oh yeah ... my "folds up" too :) Tom Monroe Carlyle Lake

yeah, too

a 6 foot piece of rope with a loop in the middle that fits over the tiller, the ends are run to small clam/jam cleats on the coaming. I've never folded it up, though, just throw it in the coaming box.

Cansail/Canadian tiller tamer

MG......... Thanks for the reply..... but the Cansail site is the Canadian product that only lasted 1 season that I wrote about. The tension on that unit just gave out. I would not recommend that anyone waste $$ on that.
