A while back, fstbttms shared a video about a fancy hull cleaning gadget. I don't remember much about the gadget, but I was awestruck by the little sink plunger he uses to hold onto boat hulls while he's down there. And now I'm a proud owner.

Also, that is a pretty fine looking little boat!

We used these with great success. They cling very well to the side of the boat when cleaning it from the dinghy. Caveat: if you get salt water on them, or heaven forbid, drop them in the water, soak them in fresh water before they dry, to get all the salt out. After one exposure to the saltwater, they rusted so bad they wouldn't budge. If they were open, they were open for good. If closed, they were closed for good. Soaking them in fresh water, like you would your SCUBA gear, may extend their life around saltwater.

The Kanawha is pretty clean nowadays, thanks to the decline of the chemical industry in the valley. A lot of wildlife is back, too.

I also like the mooring whip base that allows for pulling the boat to the dock. Did that invention require a liquid starting fuel like Ron20324 used? :)

Another option would be to tie a line on your bow and stern cleats and let the line droop over the side...I have had mixed results with suction cups.

I've done that, but if the rope is loose enough to be down where I need it, it pulls away from the boat too much to be much use as a hand hold, and if it's tight enough not to swing out, it's so high I might as well be reaching up to the toe rail. I've used the plunger a few times and it's working well so far.
