What's a acceptable size of mushroom mooring anchor should we use for a Hunter 260? We have a old 100lbs mushroom anchor from our previous boat. Should we upgrade to 250lbs? Thanks in advance. Bob

A great deal depends on the location and the type of bottom. My 35.5 has a 350lb in 7-14 ft of water and a thick mud bottom that holds like nobodies business. I would think that a 100lb might be on the light side. You certainly can't argue with TOO MUCH mooring.

Engine BLock?

Ok..I have to say, I come from an automotive repair shop. But we always gave blown-up engine blocks to people for use as moorings. The came out to ~ 300 lbs, and We always imagined that the 8 cylinder bores provided a good place for it to "dig in" because the mud could ooze around it under it's weight. The last two went to a friend of ours with a 25' moored in lake sacandaga, ny.

there ate ways of using two anchors on a mooring..

You could also add more chain or weight to the chain.

not enough

The more weight in the mooring anchor, the better you will sleep at night.
