I always get on the swim ladder after loosening the pivot point and lift with my right hand. My new Hunter 26 is the same way and the rudder is heaver. I also am trying to think of a simple way to modify it. Thinking 2 pieces of flat stainless steel with roller on the end somehow attached to the rudder and a lift line across the roller. I have loosened the pivot point and intentionally let the rudder hit the sandy bottom to cause it to initially swing then pick it up the rest of the way from the swim ladder. Not the best way but works. I usually do it when I want to back stern to the shore. I just parallel the shore line and get close enough to drag, point out, toss anchor, back to shore, tie off stern anchor, step off swim ladder, pull boat toward beach with small anchor, set it on shore or in shallow water and then relax and drink beer on beach. I want to design a better way also.
