Is there anything wrong with having a membership with more than one yacht club? I am considering keeping my membership with one club, and joining a second one on the same lake. Both clubs will be having activities that I would like to participate in. Thanks, Bruce

No Problem

We did. Then they merged. :) The only downside is some of the more partisan folks will feel you are disloyal, and some others will feel like you abandoned them. It works out OK after some time. Enjoy. Rick D.

Yes it might be a problem

This may not apply in your case but if either of the clubs has a maximum limit on the number of members, you could be denying someone the opportunity for membership. That was exactly the situation in Punta Gorda, Florida where there were several boat clubs. It seemed to be a status symbol to have multiple memberships. All of the clubs limited membership to 500 or fewer members. All of the clubs were full and had a LONG waiting list to gain membership. Most of the best boating activities were thru the clubs and if you weren't a member you could not participate. A new club was started and rather than allowing new people to join, its roster was immediately filled by people who already were members of one or more of the existing clubs. I guess the philosophy was, "He who dies with the most memberships wins." It sure would have been nice if some new people could have gained membership without having to wait for an existing member to die. Sorry for the rant, but this situation hits really close to home with me.

Yacht Clubs

Check with the clubs. Many "true" yacht clubs offer reciprical priviledges allowing you to visit another club and charge drinks/food/fuel back to your own club. In Florida we have the Florida council of Yacht Clubs, and a member of any council affiliated yacht club is offered reciprical priviledges at another council club.
