The muffler in our 1981 H27 appears to be a straight, stainless steel model that is most likely the original. It is now rusting badly and wiil soon need replacelment. It is starting to leak water, and I'd like to replace it with a plastic or fiberglass model, I guess another straight style, since I can't see any easy way to mount a water-lift. Has anyone out there done this and can they recommend a make and model that will fit, or a way to install a water-lift? Thanks.

Fiberglass replacement

I have a 1980 Hunter 30 and faced the same problem a few years ago. The original muffler was a SS, straight style, water-lock muffler with a 2" inlet and outlet. The SS muffler is no longer manufactured, but a Primex fiberglass replacement can be purchased from Marine Mufflers, part Number MC2. Call 407-886-1144, or contact Hunter Marine for other options.

I replaced mine with a Marine Muffler

I replaced my original muffler with a marine muffler fiberglass replacement. They have a model which is an almost exact duplicate. The only hard part is getting the old muffler out. The whole job took me about an hour. When you yank the old muffler you will need to remove ( I did it with a wood chisel and hammer) a wooden cleat on the deck that is in the way of the new muffler. To sets of hands will allow you to stabilize the new muffler while you double clamp it into the hoses and use a rachet wrench with the right socket on the clamp. The new muffler should last forever.
