The former owner of my '82 stopped by the dock yesterday and said he thinks I need to replace the original muffler. Can anyone give advice on where to buy one? I've searched "muffler" on several of the forum websites and not much is found. Is it too difficult to replace to try it myself? Other than exhaust fumes leaking into the engine compartment, is there another safety hazard, like starting a fire, if I don't get it fixed right away?

Add'l info -- no muffler on '82 27'

Since I did the original posting, I received a diagram of the exhaust system from Catalina. It turns out they didn't put mufflers on them back then. I will attempt to attach the diagram for those that might find it useful. tegrochester@hotmail.com

Atomic 4 Muffler

Catalina did not install mufflers on Catalina 27 with Atomic 4. When I rebuilt my Atomic 4 on my 1977 Vintage Catalina 27, I installed an inline muffler to help quiet the engine. Plus I sound proofed the engine compartment. The net result is a very quiet engine. It is very difficult to hear the engine at idle and at cruising speed I can listen to CDs with ease. The difference was very noticeble. A recommended upgrade for all you with Atomic 4s.
