I have posted this before, but did not get many responses so here goes again. I am trying to remove the original muffler on a 89 Catalina 30 with the Universal M25XP. I have heard that some are screwed to a piece of wood that is glassed in place. My setup just seems to have the (4) screws and some sort of epoxy or other bonding material (hard as a rock) holding the muffler in place. I have removed 3 of 4 screws, of course one head is striped and I will have to drill it out. Again, with 3 of 4 screw removed this thing will not budge. I am going to remove the galley latter on in the week, but I do have faily good access right now. I know it is original to the boat. Anyone have any ideas?

How about....

...a good hard whack with a mallet. I'm sorry but I can't help you. Mine was replaced by a mechanic as part of the purchase agreement. I was busy sitting in the cockpit consuming a cold one when he took the old one out. I think it came right out. Can you use a grinder and cut it out? My new one isn't even screwed down. Its just sitting held in place by the hoses. Anybody out there know if the new Vetus muffler should be screwed in place? It doesn't seem to move. Cheers -Rob

Hi Chief Try prying with a long screw driver or pry bar in from rear hatch by trans, dont lift and pry at first hammer the bar in between the ply wood and the muffler when you get a space between the ply the muffler try more tools or hammer in wood shims take your time it should pop offn. My muffler came with two large hose clamps to clamp it down Joh
