How bad is the Tampa Bay pass so far as the commercial/deepwater channel. I have been told nightmares about the pass such as eight foot waves as a norm that easily capsize unwary skippers of smaller sailing craft. Presently I have sailed a 20 foot MFG sailboat and though it has been raced in the Atlantic, not by me, I do have concerns about sailing in Tampa Bay since it is my goal to head towards Egmont Key. Any information about severe conditions on Tampa Bay and areas to avoid would be greatly appreciated. In addition to the above question, how frequently do boats in Tampa Bay get hit by lightening and do they usually remain afloat or are they then proane to sinking? Thanks again, Todd
