I have just sold my Catalina 28 and am looking at a daysailor. A 1986 Capri 18 has become available. Does anyone have any thoughts on this boat? How it sails? Longevity? Sturdiness? Fun? What to look for when purchasing as most likely I will not be doing a survery. Thanks for your assistance. John

had one for 4 years

sold it for a 22 and wish i had the 18 again, great boat , sails well , fairly fast wide beam makes it stable small main makes it easy in heavy air. dryest boat ive ever owned. no water or condensation below.no structural probs i rebeded things when they looked aged . i slept on board easily and could push her off the bottom without much problem .sailed her on the gulf and all over inland lakes. i like to trailer around to see diff. places, diffuculties included: needed trailer ext. to launch, the trailer was too lightly built, get a reverse for the outboard and id go 4-6 hp. i sailed with 2.5 which was fine in protected water but not enough to get up the channel with 15kt winds on the nose. never really thought there was the headroom under the boom for a bimini. although in hindsight something could have been accomplished with a few hundred dollars. battery power was always a prob for me but then id stay out for weeks at a time. i should have gone solar but thats major money. if i could find one without the wing i think id go that route, as its easier to load on the trailer. got mine hungup off center with a cross wind and the boat came out on top of the keel guide. no damage but a pain none the less. hope this helps. thereis a 18 association put together by a guy named eric. try sticking it in the search engine best of luck.
