After looking at all my support structure for my mast, i am thinking of just moving the mast and resealing the tubing containing the mast wiring as composed to taking the mast down. Anyone ever done this? Any ideas how much the mast weighs? I was thinking of moving it and placing it on a piece of plywood on the deck. Will this work? How tall is the pvc pipe containing the wires (How high will I need to lift the mast) Thanks!

Moving Mast

Forget it! Bite the bullet the mast goes into a receiver, you must lift it a least 2" inches. Just guess the damage if get's away from you. Oh about 325lbs. Lift and reseal about $100. Takes about 1 hour.

Thinking outside the box?

Robin: I like your creativity. On my mast the length of the wires for lights and instruments was not sufficient for moving the base. I don't know your situation, but it would probably be necessary to disconnect these leads once the mast was lifted from the receiver. That would require the mast to be lifted at least a foot and held in aloft for a period of time. I think that would require a crane. If you must have a crane, why not just drop the mast and quickly inspect the fittings, etc. you do the dirty work of cleaning and recaulking the chase for the electrical and instrument cables? As Rod said, it shouldn't take more than an hour or so. Good luck, RB
