moving halyards inside

I have the mast off of my boat at this time. I am considering moving the lines inside to clean up the overall look of the mast and to quiet things down on those really breezy nights on the hook. Has anyone done this? How was the final outcome? I am convinced it is the thing to do.SethThird DayOday 25

But there must be a reason virtually all boats nowadays come with internal halyards - they are definitely better. do the conversion.

Do It

You should be able to add a spare jib halyard, and a spare main halyard as well. I assume that your mast has 4 sheaves at the top (2 for each halyard). Take the time to add the extra halyards.

It is a good idea but be aware

That moving them inside will not always eliminate slapping. Boat movement can also cause slapping halyards if you run them along the side of the extrusion. Also, if this its a keel stepped mast, you will likely be adding water to your bilge when it rains.

Get a BRIGHT light....

and shine it up the inside of the mast to take a peak. Mine looks like a porcupine up around the spreaders and radar bracket.

Another form of silencing wires is to attach wire ties in a star pattern around the wire at certain intervals.
