I am moving into a marina dock space. I have the basics; fenders, dock lines, and wonder if there is anything else I could use? I have birthday money to spend$ No elec power available, other than the 12 volt. It will be nice to not have to empty the porto-pot every overnight stay! Any suggestions would be appreciated, sv Winter Solace

Moving from Mooring to Dock

I agree with Peter. Quiter, no one walking around at night, no bumping against the waves. Much more restful.

And I thought that I was antisocial!

Actually they do have a point, BUT, the conveniance of: dock power, loading crew and cargo, washing the boat and getting the stuff you forgot back in the car more than make up for the loss of privacy. You can always drop a hook somewhere to be alone. I've done both. alan

You will love it

Its so much more convenient my wife loves it, you just walk right up to your boat and time saving and everything is just so easy. some people would kill for a slip you are going to love it. And go anchor in some quit spot if you want. nick

mooring to dock

Jay, are you at Moraine? If so, I envy you! Having a slip would simplify everything. No wait for taxi, cranky kids and girlfriend can jump right off. But thats all! I enjoy the wait for taxi. I love sitting on my H23. I could stay there all nite. I wont be moving soon. The mooring is wonderfull. #95 at Davis Hollow Marina.

Mooring at dockside

It's your choice and if you choose dockside then there is lots of information on how to locate lines and fenders and stuff like that. Using fenders can discolor the gelcoat over time if you boat receives much water action and you park along side a dock with no aabove water poles. I paralell (sp) park mine dockside using bow and stean lines direct to dock cleats to control lateral motion, and a bow and stern lines brought to a center line dock cleat to stabilize fore and aft motion. I had to experiment to learn the right lengths of line that work. If you are in tidal waters I have a neat way of dealing with that. Happy Sailing!

Some slips need steps

If your dock is low and you have high freeboard on the boat, you may need some dock steps for boarding. Look around in the local department stores for something before you spring for them at the marine store. P.S. With a slip you may tend to use your boat more frequently since you can just jump on and go - especially in the evening after work. Have fun! ;)

Outdoor carpet

I would suggest an outdoor rug at to eliminate dock dirt from getting on the boat.
