Hey Guys,

Has anyone relocated the engine raw water intake on a cherubini 33? I read somewhere of someone moving it further away from the shaft and shaft log. I have filled the old location and am ready to drill the new location about half way between the log and the transmission coupler on the port side. In the photo I have a 1" seacock sitting in the location that I am thinking of drilling the hole. I am going to place a 3/4" seacock, the same size I removed. The original was located on starboard next to the log. Has anyone moved theirs or have some other thoughts I should consider?

Thanks, Bill

Bill, my initial impression is that you may want to consider another location altogether, somewhere away from all that moving parts back there. While it may require more hosing, from the intake thru hull to the raw water pump on the engine, I just don't think thru hulls next to the spinning shaft is a great idea. I don't know the layout of your boat, but there may be a place where you do have good access to the thru hull handle that isn't at the shaft. On our boat, for example, our aft head is adjacent to the engine. The intake thru hull is under the head sink and the hose runs around, after the strainer, to the engine, maybe a total of 10 feet, not too long that the raw water pump impeller can't pump (the water pressure gets the water to the pump with no issues). Anywhere where the thru hull is always under water. Good luck.

Stu, Thanks for your reply. I was unable to find a better location and went with the one mensioned earlier. I cut out the inner hull and glassed in a fiberglass backing plate. I still have a little glassing and fairing to do - Bill
