I would like to install a stainless steel arch just below the rear of the boom to be used for traveler or just fixed point . Thought it might also be a good place to put some shade up, antena, and what ever comes to mind ,or am I out of my mind. Harry Plaganis

Was thinking the same

After looking at the new boats I thought that it would be an easy retrofit/upgrade to most any of the the boats without an arch. If you find a source for someone who wants to do it post it here. I want one!

What do you think the cost will be?

I am just curious what you * think* the cost of this retro fit would be? I got estimates on converting the stern pulpits on my H'31 to have a seat like the newer models and the cost was $1000+.

Head banger, for sure!

As soon as I saw the 290 the thought of an arch occurred to me. I looked long and hard and realized that the distance above the guys head (promo picture in brochure), that's sitting in the sternrail seat, is subtancial. I know that in order for the bimini, on my 26, to clear and not interfer with the boom, is so low that it hits the top of my head and I'm a hairless shrimp (although still very attractive!). So I wonder how low the arch would have to be to include the neccessary clearance for the sheeting tackal. I think I'd have to wear a helmet all the time. I would like to hear a arguement to the contrary as I'm sure there's a solution. Larry Barnes "CNTRL SEA"

Same place as Bimini

The back bow on my bimini goes across were you are talking of mounting an arch, just below boom height. I am 6'5" and have no problem with my bimini up or stored, even sitting in the stern-rail seats. So I say go-for-it! Sure beats the mainsheet in the middle of the floor.

same here

i have a 260 and would also like to loose the mainsheet in the cockpit floor. Can anyone help with a overhead arch?

Sounds great!

message directed to Steve Wright, Would love to see how you've configured your Bimini on the 26. I've struggled with the idea of remounting the main bow higher but in my way of seeing the situation it will interfere with the boom, while sailing. Do you happen to have a picture of your configuration which you could post in the owner's forum? This might be the answer to this short coming on my boat! Thanks, Larry Barnes "CNTRL SEA"

This might be it

Check out this site http://www.sailnet.com/tiq/railother.cfm there is one there called a boom gallows that may be just about what we are looking for.

Arch?

I have read your question and the posts. It would be a nice feature to have but simplicity and costs not to mention installation are big factors to consider for a trailerable boat. First, the cockpit is not large enough and looking at that angle, I would tend to question if you have enough room to get around an arch on a 26. I am looking at the style arch on the new Hunter 290. Secondly, simplicity for a trailerable boat is a priority of mine and feel an arch would just get in the way when launching. As for installation, you would have to stregthen the deck and/or hull at attachement points for the arch and that in itself would require time and know how. I would guess removal of some of the positive foam floatation, inspection ports,, fiberglassing, installation of metal plates and so forth. This costs alot of money not to mention the cost of the arch and stainless steel is not cheap. The adding of an arch on a 260 alone would drive the price up on a new boat too. This is just another opinion but I did look into this over a year ago as one of my customers was curious. Crazy Dave Condon

How about a radar arch... they say they can add gussets for strength http://www.sailnet.com/tiq/radar1.htm

Cabin top traveler?

I am still stuck on the idea of a traveler mounted on a SS or aluminum riser/bridge, which would mount on the in-deck plates with the rope clutches. The main reason for this configuration was to get the mainsheet out of the cockpit floor. Everybody rained on my parade when I first mentioned this, but I had not explained that the main reason was to move the mainsheet. I have to believe that this setup would make more sense that the big arch. I also have plenty of clearance in the stern rail seats with the bimini up, plus with the sheet attached at a midpoint on the boom, gives clearance for the mainsheet.
